Love is Kind

Love is patient and kind… It does not insist on its own way. – 1 Corinthians 13

Imagine you have a friend who is trying hard to lose weight. They live in a world where delicious but not especially nutritious food is advertised on every corner, which just makes it even more difficult.

If you have a box of their favorite chocolate, are you going to walk up to them and wave it under their nose?

Well, I suppose you could; after all, they can choose to say no. But it wouldn’t be very kind, would it?

Not that it’s wrong for you to have that chocolate, and you don’t need to be ashamed of it. Nor is it wrong to share it with the right person. But you shouldn’t make your friend’s struggle harder than it has to be just because you want to show off your chocolate.

Imagine you have a guy friend who is trying hard to keep his thoughts pure. He lives in a world where scantily clad women can be seen on every corner, which just makes it even more difficult.

If you’re a girl, are you going to walk up to him in a tight, low-cut shirt and very short shorts?

Well, I suppose you could; after all, he can choose to say no. But it wouldn’t be very kind, would it?

Not that it’s wrong for you to have a woman’s body, and you don’t need to be ashamed of it. Nor is it wrong to share it with your husband. But you shouldn’t make your friend’s struggle harder than it has to be just because you want to show off your body.
